Charles is a practicing Landscape Architect who specializes in residential gardens. He possesses particular expertise in spatial design and relationships and in landscape construction and the elements of a landscape. The motivating force to choose photography as an expression of my “art” was to learn to document and express the gardens that I designed and built. In the process I discovered another way to express my “art” first in the darkroom and now in the digital darkroom.

My art normally starts with a digital capture or scan of film in order to take advantage of all the potential now offered by digital technology. Digital painting results are printed on canvas or watercolor paper. Emulsion transfers go to watercolor or art paper. Likewise for black and white infrared or when creating one-of-a-kind images on paper with mix media and collaging. Images and art are printed onto fine art papers or canvas using state of the art archival pigmented inks.

My art has appeared in numerous one-person and group exhibitions, in many local and national and international magazines, commercial publications and newspapers. And I have produced a photography book about a garden through the seasons and the years. Often I’ve written articles to accompany my images in these venues. My art hangs on the walls of private homes and corporate offices.
